BYO Device
Bring Your Own (BYO) Devices
Students may wish to bring their own device to support learning both at school and at home. BYO devices allow students to work seamlessly across environments and provide flexibility to install alternative software where appropriate.
Our school provides a secure wireless network and access to digital learning resources that support a wide range of curriculum activities. Student-owned devices are expected to meet minimum technical requirements to ensure reliable access to learning systems throughout the school day.
Minimum Requirements for BYO Devices
All student-owned devices must meet the following minimum specifications:
- Operating System
- Microsoft Windows 10 or later
- macOS 10.10 or later
- Wireless Connectivity
- 5GHz Wi-Fi (802.11ac)
- Must support WPA2-Enterprise authentication
- (Most modern devices meet this requirement)
- Battery Life
- Must last the full school day on a single charge
- Security
- Students are responsible for installing and maintaining antivirus software
- Malwarebytes is recommended
- User Agreement
- Students must sign a BYO Device Agreement confirming they will comply with the School Internet Use Policy

While devices meeting the minimum requirements will function on the school network, the following specifications are strongly recommended to ensure optimal performance and longevity:
- Processor: Intel Core i5 (2.4GHz) or equivalent
- Memory: 8GB RAM
- Storage: Solid State Drive (SSD)
Software & Learning Support
- School-owned desktop computers are available for learning activities that require higher processing capacity.
- Students may choose to install suitable alternative software on their personal devices, provided it does not conflict with school network policies.
Mobile Phones
- Students are not permitted to connect mobile phones to the school Wi-Fi network.
- Mobile phone use remains subject to the school’s Student Use of Personal Devices policy.
Responsibility & Care
Students are responsible for:
- The safe transport, storage, and care of their device
- Ensuring their device is charged daily
- Maintaining appropriate security software
Families may wish to consider insurance coverage through their Home & Contents policy. A protective case or bag is strongly recommended.
