Student Leadership

At Prescott College Southern, we are committed to nurturing the next generation of leaders. Our student leadership programs empower students to take initiative, make meaningful contributions, and develop essential life skills. Leadership opportunities within the school are many and varied. Not all student leaders are front and centre, we have students leading in key areas behind the scenes that grow confidence and talent to nurture their potential.

College Captains

Each year College Captains are elected to represent the student body. Their responsibilities include:

  • Leading SRC meetings
  • Representing the school at ceremonies and community events
  • Serving as role models and ambassadors for the school
  • Collaborating with staff to enhance the school environment

These roles give students valuable opportunities to develop leadership, public speaking, and community engagement skills.

House Captains

0ur House Captains play a vital role in shaping the spirit and culture of our school, leading with enthusiasm, responsibility and pride across Eyre, Flinders and Hindmarsh.

They take initiative in planning and running key whole-school events such as the athletics carnival, cross country and swimming carnival, working collaboratively to ensure each event is engaging and inclusive for all students. Beyond these major events, they lead regular House meetings across the secondary school, encouraging participation, fostering connection and building a strong sense of identity within their houses.

Through their leadership, they model teamwork, service and school pride, helping to create a positive and unified school community.

Student Representative Council (SRC)

The Student Representative Council is the central platform for student leadership. Comprising elected student leaders, the SRC:

  • Organises and leads school events and assemblies
  • Coordinates fundraising initiatives for community organisations
  • Advocates on behalf of the students body
  • Promotes wellbeing through engaging activities

Guided by our College Captains, the SRC provides students with practical leadership experience and encourages them to embody the school’s values.

Leadership development begins early, even in the primary year levels and sees students from a young age foster responsibility, confidence, and a strong sense of community through:

  • Participating in the SRC to voice ideas and concerns
  • Organising lunchtime clubs and special interest activities
  • Engaging in fundraising and community service projects

Beyond formal leadership roles, students are encouraged to participate in service learning programs such as STORMCO and other events that help them see the wider world. Through these programs students can develop a heart for community and service while developing empathy and social responsibility. This allows our students to grow into well-rounded individuals ready to lead with integrity, compassion, and purpose.
